30 B4 30 Day 15: Frame My Artwork

My artwork has been in my portfolio ever since I took it down off the wall at the end of my final college art class. Upon graduation, I was hoping to have this illustrious career in the arts and draw the human figure for the rest of my life. Very realistic of me. Then, I went on interview after interview, the bills came rolling in and the money didn't, so I decided to refocus my creativity and go back to school to study public relations, with some graphic design and advertising mixed in. With a master's degree, I scooped up a job in public relations a little over a month after graduating. So my art has sat in my portfolio since my new career in writing and promotions had begun.

So, my item for Day 15 is Frame My Artwork for my 30 B4 30 because I really need to start getting my pieces in local shows on Long Island. That is what I have always wanted and that is what I am going to do. Just because I have a full-time job that I enjoy doesn't mean I can't do what I love on the side, which is one reason I started this blog; for the creative outlet. I would hate for my day to day to stifle the creativity and expression I have inside. When I think about what I am and what I love to do, I always think I am an artist first, even if it is a word or thought artist and not a drawing or painting artist. The arts come in many forms and if I can't do one on a daily basis, I try to do another in substitute. Life has no balance when you can't do what you enjoy.

My first stop was Michael's because they are having a framing sale. Well, I don't know what they mean by sale because their services were way more expensive than I thought, even with a coupon. So, I had TK call one of his best friends, who owns Island School and Art Supply, and does framing as well, and the price for matting, preserving and framing was much more reasonable. I deliver my art in the next couple days and am very excited to have this all done finally. I am excited for the possibilities of shows or exhibits or even just hanging my own artwork in my home.

P.S. I will update this blog post with photos of my framed pieces after the process is complete.

OK, this is one of my drawings entitled, "Bacchanal," that was actually in an art exhibit in May 2011. It is framed very simply with no matting, but it accompanies the piece nicely.
