So, I'm Preggers!

My 34th birthday was a more dramatic time than I had originally thought. Shortly after we learned that TK had a kidney stone, I took a pregnancy test and the lines were there. Our second child was on their way. We kind of planned it this way, but not to exactly happen at the same time as a kidney stone.

When I was only five weeks pregnant, we decided to announce the pregnancy to my parents. So, we picked up four pumpkins and wrote Daddy, Mommy, Jackson and Baby K. on them. Then, we placed them on their kitchen table and waited for them to come in. My brother saw it first and congratulated us, and then my parents walked in and hugged us. We were all very happy about these new developments. Jackson was going to have a little brother or sister. We also got Jackson a shirt to announce the pregnancy to my in-laws and it said, "I am getting promoted to BIG BROTHER." My in-laws were very happy to read the news.

At the end of September, I made an appointment with my OB and the nurse confirmed my pregnancy and told me that my due date is May 14, 2015. Then, the nausea started. I felt sick all day, but did not vomit. The only time I didn't feel sick was when I was eating, so I decided to try to eat through the sickness, and eat, and eat ... By the time my second trimester started, I was sick less and less, and by the time my 14th week came along, I was feeling MUCH better. This pregnancy was very different than my first. During my first trimester with Jackson, I was only nauseous at 4 p.m. every day when my stomach was empty. Most of my pregnancy was enjoyable until the end when I got swollen and itchy feet and hands. That was awful, but it ended as soon as I gave birth, thankfully.

At Nicole's Christmas party, I asked Colleen to take a baby bump picture of me to announce my pregnancy to my friends and family on Facebook. I really don't like pregnancy pics because they look awkward and make people uncomfortable. I decided that if I would have a bump pic taken that it would only be a silhouette so people could only see the outline of my body and not my actual body. It turned out pretty well and people could definitely tell that I was pregnant, which was the goal. My belly popped a lot earlier with my second pregnancy, which I hear is normal. I guess your body just remembers what it was like and goes right back to what it was like the last time. This time, I was noticeably pregnant by the time my eighth week came around. Last time, I was about 14 weeks before I had to stock up on maternity clothes.

For this year's Christmas card, I added another little announcement to the back of the card. The front of the card had a picture that I loved of Jackson from the summer at the Central Park Zoo and the back had an image of my 12 week sonogram that I added a Santa hat to. Some people had no idea what it was and needed someone else to fill them in. I just hoped people actually turned the card over.

In the beginning of December, TK and I also decided that would we do a gender reveal cake at my parents' annual Christmas Eve party to find out the sex of our second child. I went for my level II sonogram on December 15 and asked the technician to write down the sex on a piece of paper before placing it in an envelope. I took the envelope to Audrey's Bakery in West Sayville and had them make a cake for us. I asked that it look like a Christmas present with a huge bow on it. I also asked that they put "Bows or Bow Ties?" on the gift tag. I picked up the cake on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. By 9:30 p.m. and a few nudging text messages, we had the cake out on the table and ready to slice. My cousin and his girlfriend were set to video it. I cut into the cake and then told everyone not to look at the knife (which they did anyway) and found out we were having a GIRL! I cried like a little baby and hugged all of my family members. I also made a few of them cry as well, but it was worth it. We were all so excited to have a little perfect boy in Jackson and find out that a little lady was on her way.

I am currently five months pregnant, or halfway, depending on how you want to put it. I am trying my hardest not to buy every cute little thing that I see and there are A LOT of things. TK, Colleen and Catherine all think that I should have a girlie event like a Girls Brunch or something at someone's house, so I am considering it. I don't want a full-blown shower because I don't want to do that to people. Most of them were at my first shower and I don't feel comfortable forcing people to buy the baby gifts. If they want to buy something, that's fine and I will be thankful, but I don't want to force the issue. Also, I think we are registering this weekend for some girlie things because I can get 10 percent off everything on my registry at Babies R' Us. I need to save some dough because little girls are expensive. I'll let you know how it goes.

P.S. If you want to see the cake video, it is on my Youtube Channel, here.

On Our Way to Christmas Town - Day 1

In 2012, my parents, Jackson and I visited Christmas Town at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia and thought it was a really festive and fun way to start the Christmas season. At that time, Jax was only four months old, so we weren't able to do much, but we did get to see their amazing and serious Santa Claus. Since we thought is was so lovely, we decided to head back when Jackson was a little older, and that was this year. We also added a few people to our trip. Our travel party included my parents, Aunt Rosie, Uncle George, Tom, Jackson and I.

We left at 5 a.m. to hit the road for Virginia. By 10 a.m. we were ready to stop at the Chesapeake House in Maryland to have a bite to eat. Everyone ordered their breakfast at the Earl of Sandwich because we love their sandwiches whenever we eat them at Downtown Disney. Well, I think we should stick to lunch and dinner sandwiches because my sandwich was a little odd. I had a bacon, egg and cheese and there was an interesting sauce on it that tasted like a buttery mayo. That threw my taste buds off a little bit and I wasn't a fan. After we all made our pit stops, we were back on the road and heading to our resort. At one point, Jackson was fussy, but I was prepared with a new book of stickers, a portable DVD player and my iPhone.

It rained all day, so when we arrived at Kings Creek Plantation and our room wasn't ready, we decided that we shouldn't go to Busch Gardens because the rain just kept getting worse. We went for lunch at Cracker Barrel and of course, we did a little shopping. They have the coolest items in their store, especially around the holidays. Then, we headed over to Target to get some hotel room essentials because we were supposed to have a kitchen and dining area in our room.

By the time we returned to the resort, our room was ready and we headed in with all of our luggage and supplies. At one point, I made my father, husband and uncle go out and pick up Sonic for dinner. That's pregnancy for ya! We played cards and just hung out in the room while it poured.

Since our first day was a wash-out, we made sure that the next day would be a theme park day and we were ready.

Trip Report Day 2: 11/23/13

We woke up and headed to Animal Kingdom. We started out at Pizzafari because none of us ate and I read that it was one of the places that served breakfast. When we got there, we just missed it, but the manager, Yusuf made sure that we got the last nine bounty platters, and if one of the plates was missing something, he threw in something else. He even threw in a plate for free because it was all he had left. It really helped us out and we were so grateful. I know I'll never forget his Disney touch of kindness.

The Tree of Life
After we finished eating, we headed over to Expedition Everest and rode it really quick and it was actually better on a full stomach. Jax couldn't ride Kali River Rapids, so we sat out with Aunt Rosie and hit the bathroom instead. By then, we were ready to use our Fastpass+ to ride Kilimanjaro Safari. Jax fell asleep, so I put him in the carrier and he slept through the whole thing. I noticed that they removed the Little Red/Big Red storyline and I think it was a good idea, but I did miss the guy saying, "Come in, Simba 1!"

After that, we enjoyed a few wonderful Mickey pretzels and then some of us went to It's Tough to Be a Bug and others to Festival of the Lion King. When the show was over, we met up and saw a character greeting spot with Pooh and Tigger. This was the deciding moment; would Jackson love the characters or be afraid of them? Well, Jax ran right over and into Pooh's arms. I did all I could not to cry like a baby. It made my day, no week, NO month! I was a proud Disney mama.

A Mickey Pretzel
We all then headed over to Dinoland U.S.A. so some could ride Primeval Whirl and we could take Jax on Triceratop Spin. He held on to Poppy's shorts for dear life. We also played a carnival game and I won Jax a stuffed turtle. At that time, our dinner reservation at Yak & Yeti was drawing near, so we headed over there. I checked us in and grabbed a drink at the bar before we were seated. We had appetizers and entrees, and our waitress was very friendly. I don't remember her name but she was blonde and I was able to leave positive feedback on the card on the table.

When we were done eating, we left the park to get back to resort to get ready for Poppy's birthday surprise that night. I told a little lie that I wanted to try the craft beers at the Crew's Cup Lounge and we were all going to go, so I arranged for cabs for us and we went to the Yacht Club. They have a cool train set in their lobby for Christmas.

When we got to the marina, I checked us in and then we told my dad that we had a surprise for him. My mom and I had planned a pontoon cruise to view Illuminations, complete with birthday decorations, snacks, soda, coffee, a fruit plate, cheese and crackers, and a special Mickey cake. We were able to go by Hollywood Studios to see the Christmas tree and then under the bridge in France in Epcot before the show started. It was great to see Illuminations from another angle, especially with snacks (thanks to the folks on my Disney list serv for the great idea).

After the cruise, we went back in the hotel so I could make a stop at the Crew's Cup Lounge (so I really didn't lie) and buy a round for me, Uncle George and Tom. We took our beers and made our way to the Beach Club to see the chocolate carousel in their lobby. It was amazing that the whole thing was edible and perfect. We went back to the hotel after that to get to bed and prep for the Magic Kingdom again on Sunday.

Happy Holidays!

People make such a big deal about saying "Happy Holidays" versus "Merry Christmas." How would you like it if people went around saying "Happy Hanukkah" all of December and you celebrated Christmas? It would be like they were ignoring your faith, right? Exactly.

I understand that Christmas is more prominent, but that doesn't make it right to ignore the fact that you are guessing a person's religion when you greet them. In a way, it is like presuming someone is fat instead of pregnant because there is a greater chance that they have put on pounds by eating too much and living a sedentary lifestyle, than by insemination. Maybe that's pushing it, but you get my drift.

This year, Christmas falls within the eight days of Hanukkah, so there is one day when they are both being celebrated at the same time and to say "Happy Holidays" would cover them both. So, why ignore and disrespect an entire religion when all you have to do is change your festive greeting? You can even say "Season's Greetings" if that makes you feel better. It is the "Season of Giving," so give in.

How Much Do You Love the Holidays?

A LOT! That's how much I love the holidays, and not just because I have a week off between Christmas and New Year's. I like that there is something else to say when rude cashiers choke out a, "Have a nice day," to you before you leave the store. A quick, "Have a Merry Christmas," back at them sends a little tinge of guilt for being so grumpy. Ah, the holidays.

I love houses that are lit up more than Times Square because you know that they feel the spirit too. They don't care that their electric bill is insane for one month and they "aren't related to LILCO," like my grandmother used to scream at me when I left the light on in my bedroom. These families just want their house to be a festive sight as cars pass by. My parents' house on the other hand, now that is an interesting site. My Dad has the projection screen with a Santa flying his reindeer upside down in a circle and the lights blink along with the music that plays loudly from the side of the house. This year, apparently, my parents' house is "that house." You know the house; the one that people pass by and say, "What were they thinking when they decorated this year?" Yeah, we don't know what Dad was thinking. I am hoping it was something along the lines of, "It's freezing out here. Let's just throw some lights up and get back on the couch for the Giants game."

Then there's the Christmas baking. I bake cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. This year I think I might try my hand at a few of my friends' recipes and pass them off as my own. (Just kidding Colleen.) I just love to bake and sometimes I don't even eat what I make, but I do like watching other people eat them and worry about their own caloric intake.

The craziest part of my holiday is the gift giving. I buy for almost everyone I know: my husband, my family, my friends, my friends' kids, my landlady, my boss, the people I work with, my dog, etc. This year I even added my yoga instructor at work. (It was something small. Don't get all "brown noser" on me. It wouldn't get me anywhere in yoga any way. Come on.) But, every year it never fails; I always think of buying gifts for people I barely know. For instance, year after year I think about giving gas station attendants or cart attendants at Target gloves or mittens because they must freeze out there, but then I think, "I will look creepy and gloves come in sizes. Who knows what size they are?" I have also thought about buying gifts for the folks at McPeak's Adult Home because I haven't had grandparents since 2003, but I can't afford to buy for them all and I can't just buy for the Italian and Puerto Rican ones that remind me of my grandparents. That would just be wrong. So, I just buy for the people that I know and say, "Merry Christmas" to those that I don't know because a smile is contagious and I am giving them something after all.

It is only 4 days until Christmas, but Christmas Eve is really my favorite holiday because my family all gets together to be silly and spend time with each other, and I like the anticipation of it all. I mean, Santa comes on Christmas Eve. Yep, I still believe in Santa Claus and I am glad that I do because it will make it easier to convince my children that He exists (yes that is a capital H). This year, I don't think I made the naughty list, so I am hoping he drops off some good stuff. I think I might even sweeten the deal and leave him some cookies that night too. I think he slips into my house through the air conditioner vent and feeds Duncan Beggin Strips so he doesn't bark. Then he tiptoes into the living room around 3 a.m. and realizes that he is at the wrong house and hops over to my parents' house to drop off my presents. Honestly, every year my presents say, "From, Santa" or "From, Chilly Willy" or "From, Yukon Cornelius," and no my mother does not write them on the tags; they are really from who they say they are from...really.

Anyway, this is all what I have made up in my head for the holiday season. Don't you just love the holidays? :)
